Heimalba: setting up dimensions, cut-outs and the daylight dial

Start with the basics

Install Heimalba like any Orbital theme: Install a theme on Shopify. Every feature falls back to your normal product photos when its metafield is empty, so the theme works before every product has dimensions and cut-outs. Fill them in as you go.

Product and variant metafields

Heimalba reads product and variant metafields in the heimalba namespace:

• height, width and depth: dimension metafields. Used by the shelves, the Basket and Fits a space.
• cutout: the object alone on a transparent background.
• lit_image: the same cut-out with the lamp switched on.
• room_image, morning_image, evening_image and night_image: room photos for the daylight dial. These work on collections too.
• materials and care: product details.
• lead_time: a made-to-order note for the product.
• pairs: products that go well together.

In your Shopify admin, add them under Settings → Custom data, then fill them in on each product or variant.

Already use your own metafields for sizes or cut-out photos? In Theme settings you can point the dimensions and the cut-out at the metafields you already have, so you don't need to copy anything.

Theme settings for the light

In the theme editor, Theme settings holds:

• the light hours: when morning, day, evening and night start,
• the first light a new visitor sees,
• the reference object used for scale,
• the default units.
