—Free Shopify themes

Free Shopify themes, made like premium ones.

Complete Online Store 2.0 themes, designed and built in-house, free to download. No card, no licence key, no email list: sign in with Google and the ZIP is yours.

The free theme

Each one has a live demo store you can click through before you download, and its own setup guide.

01What free means here

Free, without the small print.

Plenty of “free” themes are a demo of a paid one. These aren't.

  • 01

    The whole theme

Every template, every section, five languages and more than one preset. Nothing locked behind an upgrade.

  • 02

    No licence key

Nothing to paste or activate. Use it on any store you run, or one you build for a client.

  • 03

    A credit you control

A small “Theme by Orbital Studio” link sits in the footer. Switch it off in the editor at any time.

  • 04

    Saved in your account

Sign in once with Google. The ZIP and every future version wait in your Orbital account.

What about Shopify's own free themes?

They're a good place to start, and we say so. The Shopify Theme Store lists 24 free themes, every one made by Shopify: the newer Horizon family and the older Dawn family. They're fast, kept up to date and supported by Shopify.

Where ours differ is focus. An Orbital theme is built around one kind of store. Dyecard, for example, is for clothing brands that sell the same piece in many colours: a shade strip on every product card, a Spectrum wall that sorts the whole catalogue by colour, and a product page that shows only the chosen colour's photos.

Questions about free Shopify themes

Are these Shopify themes really free?
Yes. There is no price, no trial and no card. You sign in with Google so the theme can be saved in your account, and you download the ZIP. Shopify itself still charges for your store plan, as it does with any theme.
What is the catch?
Two small things. You need a Google sign-in to download, and the footer shows a small “Theme by Orbital Studio” link. The link is on by default and you can switch it off in the theme editor whenever you like. We give these themes away so more people find Orbital; some of them later buy one of our premium themes.
Is a free theme a cut-down version of a paid one?
No. Each free theme on this page is a complete theme with every page template (home, collection, product, cart, search, blog, pages, account, gift card, password), its own sections, translations and presets. It is not a lite version with features held back for an upgrade.
Can I use it on more than one store, or for a client?
Yes. A free theme can be used, changed or not, on any store you run or build for a client. What you can't do is resell or share the theme files themselves as a theme or template.
How do I install it?
In Shopify go to Online Store → Themes → Add theme → Upload zip file, choose the ZIP you downloaded, then Customize and Publish when you're ready. Each theme has its own step-by-step setup guide in our help centre.
Do free themes get updates and support?
New versions are published in your Orbital account, the same place you downloaded the theme. Free themes come as they are, without a support period, but the setup guide covers the common questions and you can email us; we answer as time allows.
How do they compare with Shopify's own free themes?
Shopify's Theme Store lists 24 free themes, all made by Shopify (the Horizon and Dawn families). They are solid and well maintained. Ours are built around one specific kind of store, with a look that doesn't resemble a default theme. The fair comparison is in our article on the best free Shopify themes.
